Albany Marching Falcons help celebrate Veterans Day -- Nov. 11, 2011
Before leading Albany's 56th annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11,
the City School District of Albany Marching Falcons performed at
a flag-raising ceremony outside William S. Hackett Middle School.

The flag that was raised was flown in the band's honor in
Washington, D.C., when it performed at President Obama's first
Memorial Day Parade in 2009. Local Boy Scouts and veterans also
participated in the ceremony,
helping to properly lower the tattered flag and replace it with the
crisp new one. Following the ceremony, the band
led the city's annual parade, and then performed at the
VA Hospital on Holland Avenue.
"We are trying to bring home the importance of the Veterans Day
holiday to our students," said Bryan Cady, the band's director. "That it's
not just a day off from school. There is a good reason for it and
people who have sacrificed for our country attached to it."
The Marching Falcons feature district students in grades
4-12.

Falcons' website to learn more about the program and upcoming
