The start of the 2010-11 school year in the City School District
of Albany began on Sept. 7. Below are first-day-of-school photos from a
sampling of the 15 district schools.

Above and on the left, a group of students in Albany High School's
Career Explorations in Education Program get
a briefing by teacher Jeff Weltz. At right, two students enroute to
class note the new floors at the high school. The
flooring is part of a voter-supported project to renovate and upgrade
Albany High.

Also at Albany High, a class is in session at left. On the right,
Principal David McCalla, Ph.D., talks to reporters
about changes that will take place this year at the high school.
Returning to Arbor Hill Elementary School was a family matter, as
parents and children walked to this newly
renovated school. At left, a father talks about how pleased he is that
Arbor Hill Elementary is back in business and
on the right, parents accompany current (and future) Arbor Hill
students.

These Eagle Point Elementary School students are thrilled to be in
school. On the left, students identify their
names and at right, a class listens to a story.

Students in Cindy Clo's class at Giffen Memorial Elementary School have
a get-to-know-each-other kickball game
on the school's front lawn.

At left, Pine Hills Elementary School Principal Vibetta Sanders talks
with a student, and on the right, newcomers
to New Scotland Elementary School get a lesson in playground etiquette.

Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology students got back into
the school rhythm immediately. On
the left, students line up to go to lunch, and on the right,
students in Susan Googins' class prepare for a science
lesson.
