Great things are happening in Albany's public schools

Whether onstage, in the classroom or on the athletic field, great things are happening in the City School District of Albany.

For example, take Albany High School senior Fahima Muthuvappa, pictured at right.

She's an outstanding student with her sights set on becoming a doctor. She hopes to someday open a clinic with friend and classmate Wesley Pluviose-Philip, another stellar student. (You see Wesley's arm here as she takes his blood pressure.)

They are but two of the thousands of students in the City School District of Albany with big dreams and bright futures. The 2011-12 school calendar features 24 such students: actors and athletes, painters and percussionists, scientists and scholars.

Choosing two dozen students to represent the district proved a challenge because so many fit the definition of exceptional. In the end, though, principals recommended these students and we are proud to recognize them for being part of what makes our schools great places to learn and grow.

To find out what makes each student extraordinary, click on his or her name below.
