NY GEAR UP
NY GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a six-year, $1.3 million grant that provides support services to all of the 2005-2006 school year's seventh-grade students. The resources will follow these students as they move from middle school to high school with the purpose of increasing the number of students who successfully meet high school graduation requirements and go on to college.

Each student will meet with their guidance counselor to develop an annual Individual Career/College Plan (ICP) based on interest and availability of programming. Activities include tutoring, mentoring, career speakers, college fairs, college visitations, and a summer service-learning program.

Parents are encourage to participate in workshops including financial aid and saving strategies. Teachers will increase their capabilities through an array of professional development activities.

Grant partners include the University at Albany's Career Development Center, the Center for Innovation in Career Development, the New York State Education Department, and the Liberty Partnerships Program. In addition, the district will work collaboratively with the Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, the College of Saint Rose, Albany City Council PTA, the Commission on Independent College and Universities, and SEFCU.
