Director's Memo: Sports are a time commitment

Some food for thought as we
look ahead to fall sports …
Sports are a time commitment.
If you are interested in participating in a
varsity,
junior varsity or modified sport, please keep in mind that you are making a
commitment to your team and that sport. To be fair, each player must
make the commitment to be present at each practice and contest
throughout the season before tryouts begin. This weighs heavily on the
decisions made by coaches when they determine their rosters.
A schedule
is given at the beginning of each team’s season and also is available
before tryouts upon request.
The fall
sports season begins with practice in mid-August for varsity and JV
teams, and early September for modified teams (grades 7-8). The
season will extend through October and possibly into early November,
with seasons varying in length depending
on how successful individuals and teams are and whether they are
involved in playoff games or advance in the Section II or state
tournaments.
Teams and individual
athletes perform better when everyone is involved. Please consider
your sports schedule when planning vacations and other non-school-related activities!
